Doors within a door, 2022

Taxes were paid according to the size of the entrance door in 17-19th century Amsterdam , so people adjusted the size of the front door to their height and size. This practice highlights the complex relationship between people and their living space. I opened smaller doors to fit the size of other domestic creatures such as birds, cats, chickens and dogs.

Foor under the floor, 2022

Layers of flooring from different periods are layered on top of each other like fossils, faithfully recording the history and memory of this space. I cut and open the floor to reveal other layers beneath the surface floor, and at the same time open up the time beneath it.
