Invasive Remedy A reflective, hands-on session inviting participants to explore healing practices as mutual aid using plants often labeled as “invasive”. Together, we will recreate 2–3 recipes in person, such as mugwort tincture and stinging nettle balm. Involving the following techniques: making tinctures, ferments, balm/salves, and discussing safe foraging techniques. Through these gestures of transforming “unwanted” plants into “healer” kin, we will turn narratives of exclusion into gestures of care. In this workshop, we tenderly go about the task of getting to know our more-than-human neighbours, learning their stories of migration, and in engaging with them through the theme of healing justice, create avenues for kin-making.This workshop was developed during the Baltan Laboratories Fellowship 2025-26, Yi and Esh was working on materialising the Native Non Native Kinship Handbook as a digital platform, please see: nativenonnative.hotglue.me
This project was kindly supported by Baltan Laboratories and Cutuur Eindhoven

Rat King: on Migration of the Brown Rat
This board game is designed around the transnational, trans-century migration trajectory of the brown rat (Rattus norvegicus), also known as the common rat, street rat, sewer rat, dock rat, Hanover rat, or Norwegian rat. Their numerous names may reflect the species' long journey and its many encounters with humans across different times, spaces, and regions.
Originating in northern China, Mongolia and Siberia, the brown rat has now spread to every continent except Antarctica (reaching as far as South Georgia Island near the Antarctic). They have become the most widespread rodent across most of Europe and North America, firmly established in worldwide ecosystems.
A “rat king” is a rare phenomenon in which a group of rats becomes physically tangled together by their tails, which has been recorded in many parts of the world. I understand it as a kind of glitch in everyday reality, an entanglement that appears when enough encounters and conditions allow it to emerge. Through this game, we will collectively speculate on the movements of brown rat families and explore how their migration paths intersect with climate change, colonial navigation, human expansion, global trade, and ongoing efforts to eradicate them. What other forms of glitches might emerge within this continual flow of reality?Rat King board game is in the test stage. You can download the file for printing here. Pleeeeeease let me know your feedback :)(The game map can be printed in A2 or A3 size.
The game rule pages and cards page can be printed in A4 size. You will also need a die and some clay)

(Possible)Interspecies Dialogues with MyceliumDate: 26 October 2025, 11:00 – 17:00
Location: toitoidrome, Zendelingenstraat 38, 2140 Borgerhout

Come join us in ' T_Cyberhol and explore with us the exciting world of cyborg electronics, infused with the spirit of technofeminism! Together we can shape the future of technology in an inclusive and empowering way, short-circuiting patriarchal and neoliberal technologies.

In this session, we take the relationships between mycelium and their substrates as a lens to rethink ecological and social boundaries. From the gendered categorization of plants in Linnaean taxonomy to modernity’s separations of human and non-human life, we will examine how structural “separability” (da Silva, 2016) and the designation of certain beings as "worth less" (Braidotti, 1994) continue to shape the social frameworks that govern our relationships with other beings and the environment.

How might we imagine interspecies dialogue differently? What could be a tangible tool for such encounters? And is dialogue itself necessary, or does this desire risk reproducing existing hierarchies and power dynamics?

Starting in toi toi drome, we will build a low-tech, low-cost bio-synthesizer (https://lifepatch.id/Biosynth) : a CD4093-based circuit sensitive to moisture and the resistivity of organic matter. With this tool, we step outside and will explore possible interactions with mushrooms and other living beings in the urban environment.

Migration Soup: Beetroot, 2024

At De Fabriek, Eindhoven

Migration soup is a series that weaves together the migration stories of plants and people. The story of the beetroot's migration is deeply intertwined with human innovation and the sugar revolution, native to the Mediterranean region, beetroot was initially valued for its leaves. as it spread through Europe, beet was cultivated in larger roots and it became both a staple food and a valuable medicinal crop. in 1747, sugar beet was first identified as a potential source of sugar. however, it wasn't widely utilized until the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century, when Britain's blockade of sugar imports to continental Europe. by 1880, sugar beet had overtaken sugarcane as Europe's primary source of sugar. this shift reduced dependence on colonial sugarcane, and reshaped global trade networks. We shared beet soup and had a guided meditation to imagine the beetroot's migration narrative together, and explored how a plant evolved with its environment and integrated into new systems. We use beet juice to map the stories of the plants and our own stories.

Migration Soup: Peultje, 2024

Images taken at Club Solo, Breda

Peultjes, known in English as snow peas or Chinese peas, are intriguingly referred to as “Dutch peas”(荷兰豆) in China. This evolving name reflects the journey of this pea variety from southwestern China to the Netherlands, and then back to Taiwan and the southern coasts of China.

We used these peas to make a soup, accompanied by guided meditation and group drawing, to visualize the pea’s journey. Through the story of this migrating pea, we reflected on our own paths of migration.

In the space, a white fabric was laid on the ground, concealing scattered peas beneath it. When participants stepped or sat on the fabric, they could feel these peas beneath them. In the fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea," a single pea causes discomfort beneath 40 layers of blankets. This metaphor resonates with our migrant experience, even when life may appear smooth on the surface, a persistent unease can linger, like hidden peas woven into our daily experience .

It may seem simple to throw hair in the trash bin, but it doesn't just disappear. Hair takes years to decompose, its long-term presence in landfills and waste streams takes up a lot of space. Runoff from these landfills can gradually increase nitrogen levels in water bodies, Chemicals in hair care products can damage coral reefs, and human hair treated with bleach or chemicals can leach out these substances during degradation. Discarded human hair in urban environments is suspected to be a major cause of foot mutilation in pigeons.

This workshop invites participants to reimagine the afterlife of discarded hair in urban waste systems. Through a participatory, sensory experience of observing, touching, smelling, and making with hair. The session begins with a guided meditation that traces the journey of discarded hair, to rethink the separation between human and non-human entities, and explore how daily waste can be part of a larger process of ecological repair and cyclical regeneration.

Drawing on Denise Ferreira da Silva’s concept of separability, this workshop will reflect on how urban waste systems enforce a division between living and non-living, human and non-human, and how these artificial separations reinforce emotional detachment from discarded materials. By treating waste, like human hair, as separate and irrelevant, the entanglements between organisms, ecosystems, and human activities became overlooked. How does urban infrastructure dictate what is deemed "acceptable" to touch and engage with, and what is kept at a distance or ignored? What materials are we encouraged to form emotional connections with, and what are we conditioned to discard as irrelevant?

Workshop include:

Sensory&Guided Meditation(35 mins): Reflect on hair’s life cycle and entanglements with urban ecosystems.

Hands-on Making&conversation(40 mins): Through sustainable, home-based, low cost, low tech recycling methods. like wet felting to transform collected hair into fabric. Participants are encouraged to bring hair (human or animal) or fibers from laundry machines.

falling off: The invisible violence in the global hair trade chain
‘falling off’ is about the commodification of labour.

I research how populations and resources are forced to migrate and become disconnected from their original lands in the process of global commodification. I use global hair trade as a case study to identify the complex and interwoven power dynamics of commodification, globalization, patriarchies, capitalism, consumerism, and East-West relations.

As a Chinese visual artist living in Europe, I am surrounded by “Made in China” products every day. I choose to work with the wig, a commodity that is both common and specific, personal and industrialized. In the global hair trade, raw materials originate from the human body, and the contributors: hair providers, workers, and customers, are predominately women. However, the entire system is entrenched in male aesthetics, patriarchy, and hierarchy.

Geographically, in the global hair trade, human hair is collected from India, Myanmar and Bangladesh, processed in China, then sold to Europe and the United States. Like most other production industries, it follows the migration of resources and labor from east to west, from the global south to the north, and from underdeveloped to developed regions.

In 2023, I spent a month working with 45 female workers in a factory in Xuchang, China, to better understand the hair trade from this perspective. This city is the world's largest hair production center.

Continuously, I have been researching the historical reasons for China's emergence as a production center for the hair trade during the Chinese ‘hair cutting movement’ of 1903-1927. I want to draw attention to the relative geographical and historic position of the women in the global hair trade. I combine real-life footage with archival material to complete an essay film, which comprises three narrative dimensions of my situation, the situation of my coworkers in the factory and the historical context. In this film I reflect on the gestures of violence in the daily production of industrial products.
